Luc Van Lierde

Luc Van Lierde doesn’t need much of an introduction as he is Belgium’s most successful triathlete ever. He reached his biggest triumphs in the legendary Ironman of Hawaii which he managed to win twice (1996 and 1999). In 1996 he was the first European triathlete to win this race in record-breaking time and at the end of his career he even managed to finish to come in 8th  in Hawaii 2007.

He also won the Ironman of Europe 1997 where he clocked the fastest Ironman ever in 7:50:27. Further he became European Champion in the Olympic Distance 1996.

In the Long Distance Luc Van Lierde is a two times winner of the World Championships. In addition to that he also won the Ironman editions of Malaysia (2x) and Lanzarote (1x).

During his career he clocked several top-10 finishes in both European as World Championships as well as in Ironman and Ironman 70.3 editions.

After more than 20 years as a professional triathlete, Luc Van Lierde decided to share his secret to success and started working with athletes as a coach.
Only one year after he started coaching, he managed to coach Frederik Van Lierde to a third place in the IRONMAN World Championship Kona Hawaii in 2012 and in 2013, he guided Frederik to winning the legendary race.

Luc Van Lierde has reached the top both as an athlete and as a coach. The Itzu Tri team feels delighted to have a legend like him on the team as he can pass his knowhow and experience on to the next generation.
